The transformer is said to be well designed. This means that it approaches the ideal concept of a transformer. In an ideal transformer the primary current I1 is related to the secondary current I2 by this equation -

I1 = I2 N2/N1 where N1 and N2 are the primary and secondary turns. So if I2 = 0 , I1 = 0 also.
