By pythagoras's theorem , we have

perpendicular^2 + base^2 = hypotenuse^2

x^2 + (x+2)^2 = 10^2 = 100

x^2 + x^2 + 4 + 4x = 100

2x^2 + 4x = 96

2x ( x + 2 ) = 96

Now express 96 in form of 2x ( x + 2) like this

96 = 2 × 6 ( 6 + 2)

So , x = 6
