vedar: 72.In the given reaction, Al is oxidised from 0 to +3 state, and Fe is reduced from (effectively) 8/3 to 0.

So, reductant is Al. Each atom of Al loses 3 electrons. So, a total of 24 electrons is the answer.
vedar: 71.This process is also called autoreduction process or air reduction process. The sulphide ores of less electropositive metals like Hg, Pb, Cuetc., are heated in air as to convert part of the ore into oxide or sulphate which then reacts with the remaining sulphide ore to give the metal and sulphur dioxide. No external reducing agent is used in this process.
vedar: hope that it was helpful
pragnalahari: Thank you very much for the explanation
vedar: my pleasure
