Q. Which expression has a value of 0 ?

a. 8 × 7 - 35 ÷ ( 3 + 2 )

= 8 × 7 - 35 ÷ ( 5 )

= 8 × 7 - 35 ÷ 5

= 8 × 7 - 7

= 56 - 7

= 49.

b.[ ( 8 × 7 ) - 35 ÷ 3  ] + 2

= [ ( 56 ) - 35 ÷ 3 ] + 2

= [ 56 - 35 ÷ 3 ] + 2

= [ 56 - ( 35/3 ) ] + 2

= [ ( 168 - 35 ) / 3 ] + 2

= [ 133/3 ] + 2

= ( 133/3 ) + 2

= ( 133 + 6 ) / 3

= 139 / 3.

c. 8 × [ 7 - 35 ÷ ( 3 + 2 ) ]

= 8 × [ 7 - 35 ÷ 5 ]

= 8 × [ 7 - 7 ]

= 8 × 0

= 0

d. ( 8 × 7 - 35 ) ÷ ( 3 + 2 )

= ( 56 - 35 ) ÷ 5

= 21/5.

The answer is option ( c ).

We will follow BODMAS rule here 



a) 8 × 7 - 35 ÷ ( 3 + 2 )

 = 8 × 7 - 35 ÷ 5

 = 56 - 35 ÷ 5 

 = 56 - 7 

 = 49


b) [( 8 × 7 ) - 35 ÷ 3] + 2 

  
 = [ (56) - 35 ÷ 3] + 2 
 
 = [ 56 - 35 ÷ 3] + 2 

 = [ 56 - ( 35 ÷ 3)] + 2

 = [ 56 - ( 35/3 ) ] + 2

 = [ ( 168 - 35 ) / 3 ] + 2

 = [ 133/3 ] + 2

 = ( 133/3 ) + 2

 = ( 133 + 6 ) / 3

 = 46.3 approx.


c)  8 × [ 7 - 35 ÷ ( 3 + 2 ) ]

 = 8 × [ 7 - 35 ÷ ( 5) ]

 = 8 × [ 7 - 35 ÷ 5 ]

 = 8 × [ 7 - 7 ]

 = 8 × 0

= 0        Hence this is the answer 


 
d)  ( 8 × 7 - 35 ) ÷ ( 3 + 2 )

 
 = ( 56 - 35 ) ÷ 5 

 = 21 ÷ 5 

 = 4.2
