let the no of girls be x

therefore no of boys = 2/5x

and strength of class = 56

therefore x + 2/5x = 56

7x/5. = 56

7x = 280

x = 280/7

x = 40

no of girls is 40

there no of boys = 2/5 *40

= 2*8

= 16
