Present situation

Let the age of son be x
Age of man= 24+x

12 years ago
Age of son=x-12
Age of man=24+x-12
=12+x

According to the question:
(12+x)=5×(x-12)
12+x =5x - 60
72=4x
X=72/4
X=18
Present age of son=18 years
Present age of father=24+18=42

let the present age of son be x
present age of man is y
by first condition
y= x+24
x-y = -24.......(1)
by second condition,
y-12 = 5(x-12)
5x-y= 48......(2)
subtracting (2) from (1) we get,
x = 18yrs and
y = 42 yrs
therefore present age of son is 18yrs and man is 42yrs
