Explanation:

a) Electromagnetic induction is defined as the phenomenon whereby an emf is generated in a conductor by varying the magnetic flux associated with it.

b)

1. When key is plugged in coil P, the galvanometer connected to coil S shows a deflection.

Explanation: When the key is plugged in the coil P flow of electric current increases in the coil P, increase in current increases the magnetic field strength in the coil P. Some of these magnetic lines of force pass through the coil S. Change in magnetic field strength in the coil S induces a potential difference such that the coil S opposes the increase in magnetic field strength. This results in a flow of electric current in the second coil. When current passes through the galvanometer it gives a deflection.

2) When current continues to flow in the coil P no deflection is seen in the galvanometer.

Explanation: When steady current flows in the coil P a steady magnetic field is produced in the coil P. Since magnetic field at coil S does not change current does not flow in the coil S.

3) When current in coil P is stopped by removing the key, galvanometer shows a deflection but in opposite direction to the earlier.

Explanation: When the key is plugged out in the coil P flow of electric current decreases in the coil P, decrease in current in the coil decreases the magnetic field strength in it. Some of these magnetic lines of force pass through the coil S, change in magnetic field strength in the coil S induces an potential difference such that the coil S opposes the decrease in magnetic field strength. This results in a flow of electric current in the second coil. When current pass through the galvanometer it gives a deflection. But this time the direction of current reverses its direction.

c) Deflection in galvanometer is in opposite direction.

Reason:E.M. induction takes place but the induced current is in is in opposite direction.
