The author has various childhood memories related to his time in Goa and especially his fondness for bread and cakes prepared by the village bakers.
EXPLANATION:
This is taken from ‘Glimpse of India’: ‘Goa’ and the ‘author of this part’ is ‘Lucio Rodriguez’. The author has spent his childhood in ‘Goa’ which was a ‘Portuguese colony’ in ‘pre independence India’. He recalls the time when the ‘village Baker’ was very important in the life of people.
Everyday people would wait for the Baker in the morning to deliver their ‘freshly made bread’ and would pay them at the end of the month. The bread making was a profitable business back then.
And breads were also very important in their culture were people use to ‘gift their daughters’ sweet bread as gifts. While remembering all these things the ‘author became very nostalgic’.
