Podu is a traditional system of cultivation used by tribes in India, whereby different areas of jungle forest are cleared by burning each year to provide land for crops. The word comes from the Telugu language. Podu is a form of shifting agriculture using slash-and-burn methods.

2] describe some cultural activities of tribals ?

3] what benefits do the farmers get in rythu Bazar ?

The main aim of Rythu Bazaar is to help farmers bring and sell their produce directly to consumers without the involvement of middlemen.Middlemen exist at various levels between the farmer and the consumer and exploit through malpractices in weighing, handling and payments.

4] what do you understand by inequality ? illustrate with examples ?

Inequality is concerned with disparities in the distribution of a certain metric, which can be income, health or any other material or non-material asset. Inequality typically refers to within country inequality on individual or group level, such as between gender, urban and rural population, race etc.

An example of inequality is when you have ten of something and someone else has none.

5] why do you think the area of podu has reduced in recent years ?

It was believed by many people that Podu is the reason for deforestation. They believe that the burn and slash form of agriculture has a huge impact on the environment that will end up with felled and burnt hill slopes. Hence, the people of the hill tribes have stopped this practice since the Neolithic times.
