1. The advantages of classifying organisms are below:

(i) Classification helps us identify different organisms.

(ii) It helps to build a relationship among various organisms.

(iii) They help us to study the phylogeny and evolutionary history of organisms.

(iv) If we study a particular type of organism we can know their characteristics.

2. For developing a hierarchy of classification, we choose the basic characteristics among several other charecteristics. We need to look at the fact it given characteristics which is present in a small number in an organism. By choosing the basic characteristic, we can make classify a living organism as the next level of character which is dependent on these. This goes on to form a hierarchy of characteristics.
