The main challenge was the weather, and the Iroquois. The weather was very cold in Canada and the french were not use to the coldness. They needed the aboriginal help to survive and how to keep warm. The aboriginal taught the french how to make warm coats and how to build houses so that the heat doesn't escape. What came along with the cold was desease like small pox and fever which then spread to the aboriginal and killed off lot's of them. The french settlement was always being attacked by the Iroquois which made it hard to leave the settlement to go and trade fur. The Iroquois were burning down the french towns and the french were killing the Iroquois
