1. Why do we feel more heat when we keep one hand above the candle flame than
keeping on the side of the candle flame?

when we keep one hand above the candle flame, towards the top, the air gets heated by convection. Therefore, the hand above the flame feels hot. On the sides, there is no convection and air does not feel as hot as at the top.

This happens because the vast majority of the burning hot air goes up, where it causes the cool.

What little goes sideways is immediately mixed with a large amount of cool air. This same mixing also happens above the flame, but there is far more hot air for the same amount of cool air, resulting in a hotter mixture.
