to show that matter is particulate (made up of particles), simply use the Gold Foil experiment rutherford performed. Rutherford shot alpha particles which either shot straight through the gold foil (as most did) or bounced back/changed direction (as only a few did). His experiment showed that all matter is composed of electrons/protons and eventually led up to the discovery of neutrons. He also developed the neuclear modal of the atom which you can also use to support the fact that matter is made up of particles. (subatomic particles - atoms - molecules - compounds - mixtutes etc.......
