When an object falls freely to the ground,it is under the effect of a constant force known as force of gravity.Hence, from Newton's second law of motion,we can say that this constant force of gravity accelerates the freely falling object uniformly.

Yes the acceleration is constant because when object fall under downward it is under force of gravity and value of gravity is constant 9.8m/s^2
