Given:

  • Pineapple + Pineapple + Pineapple = Strawberry
  • Strawberry + 1 = Grapes
  • Grapes + Grapes = 24
  • Watermelon + Pineapple = 6
  • Grapes + Strawberry + Watermelon = ?

To Find:

The sum of value of grapes, strawberry and watermelon.

Solution:

Let's say the pineapple be "a", strawberry be "b", grapes be "c" and watermelon be "d".

Therefore,

a + a + a = b

⇒ 3a = b -------- (eq 1)

b + 1 = c

⇒ 3a + 1 = c ------- (eq 2)

c + c = 24

⇒ 2c = 24

c = 12 (grapes)

Value of grapes i.e. c is 12. Substitute value of c in (3a + 1 = c) to get the value of a.

⇒ 3a + 1 = 12

⇒ 3a = 11

⇒ a = 11/3

(Number of fruits can't be in fraction. So, there is error in second equation. If we subtract 1 from strawberry, still we get a fraction number. So, multiply the 1 in second equation.)

CORRECT QUESTION:

  • Pineapple + Pineapple + Pineapple = Strawberry
  • Strawberry × 1 = Grapes
  • Grapes + Grapes = 24
  • Watermelon + Pineapple = 6
  • Grapes + Strawberry + Watermelon = ?

3a × 1 = 12

a = 4 (pineapple)

Substitute value of a in (eq 1)

⇒ 3(4) = b

⇒ 13 = b

b = 12 (strawberry)

Similarly,

d + a = 6

⇒ d + 4 = 6

d = 2 (watermelon)

From above calculations; we have value of pineapple is 4, strawberry is 12, grapes is 12 and watermelon is 2. Substitute these value in last equation i.e. the sum of c, b and d; to get the resultant value.

c + b + d

⇒ 12 + 12 + 2

26

Therefore, the sum of grapes, strawberry and watermelon is 26.
