Q-1) Why is it easy to drive on a smooth road than on a rough road?

Ans:- It is easy to push a car on a smooth road than on a rough road because friction is less in smooth road than on rough roads

Q-2) Nishant has to push a heavy bag and Arya has to push a lighter bag on the same floor, who will have to apply a larger force and why?

Ans:- Nishant has to apply more force because a lighter bag has less mass as compared to a heavy bag which weighs more. Therefore Nishant has to apply more force

Q-3) Write three situations where you think friction is an advantage and three situations where you think friction is a disadvantage.

Ans:- Advantages:- 1) Friction enables us to walk freely, 2) Objects can be piled up without slipping, 3) Breaks of vehicles work due to friction

Disadvantages:- 1) It causes wear and tear of machines, 2) It decreases the life expectancy of moving parts of vehicles, 3) It always resists the motion, So extra energy is required to overcome it

Ans:- The two ways by which friction in a machine can be reduced are:- 1) By using lubricants, 2) By polishing the surface of machine.

Ans:- It is difficult to walk on a floor without friction because the friction is less and the required grip is not available.
