Q1. The sun rises two hours earlier in Arunachal Pradesh as compared to Gujarat in the west but watches show the same time. How does it happen? (Question of Geography Chapter-1 NCERT i.e. India, size and location)

Ans- This kind of situation occurs due to local time difference as the sun rises earlier in the east than the west. Thus, sun seems to rise earlier in Arunachal Pradesh as compared to Gujarat. But, the watches shows same time in both places because the time is standard for the entire country. The standard time is the time shown in the standard meridian 82°30' which passes through Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh.

Ans- The Spread of electricity brought significant changes in the ongoing lifestyles of the people in Palampur. These changes were:-

  • Many of the houses got electric connections. This helped in the water supply, children could now study, electrical appliances like T.V could run now etc.
  • The electricity powered the tube wells in the field which helped in irritating much larger areas more effectively as compared to the traditional persion wheels.
  • The small cottage industries and businesses could run their machines now, like Mishrilal's sugarcane crushing machine as mentioned in the chapter.
