1. if we dip red litmus paper in a soap solution it turns blue in colour as soap is a base.

2. in hard water due to presence of magnesium calcium ions the soap produces scum instead of lather which is a whitish slimy substance. the scum is also known as sodium stearate.

3. permanent hardness of water can be removed by washing soda.
