Let the required no. be x

7/12 - x = 1/2

-x = 1/2 - 7/12

-x = 6-7/12

-x = -1/12

x= 1/12

so 1/2 is the required no.

Answer:

1/12

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x be the number subtracted from 7/12 to get 1/2

\frac{7}{12}-x =  \frac{1}{2} \\\\\implies x = \frac{7}{12} -\frac{1}{2} \\\\\implies x = \frac{7}{12} -\frac{6}{12}  \ \ \ \ \ \ [\text{Dividing and multipliying 6 in right term]} \\\\\implies x = \frac{1}{12}

Hope it helps
