Answers
Answer:
6. the names of two natural substances: coal and petroleum.
2. Diamond is the purest form of carbon.
3. Uses. Coke is used as a fuel and as a reducing agent in smelting iron ore in a blast furnace. The carbon monoxide produced by its combustion reduces iron oxide (hematite) in the production of the iron product. Coke is commonly used as fuel for blacksmithing.
5. Why petroleum is referred to as black gold? Petroleum is referred to as 'black gold' because when crude oil is extracted from the land it is black in colour. People call it gold because of its oils and value. It is very difficult to find. A natural resource is what people can use which comes from the natural environment. Examples of natural resources are air, water, wood, oil, wind energy, natural gas, iron, and coal. The dividing line between natural resources and man-made resources is not clear-cut.
7. Fossil fuels principally consist of carbon and hydrogen bonds. There are three types of fossil fuels which can all be used for energy provision; coal, oil and natural gas. Coal is a solid fossil fuel formed over millions of years by decay of land vegetation.
8. Coal tar is a thick dark liquid which is a by-product of the production of coke and coal gas from coal. It has both medical and industrial uses. It may be applied to the affected area to treat psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff).
9. CNG is considered clean because it emits 50% of less carbon than coal when you burn it. CNG stands for " compressed natural gas " it is called clean gas because it is obtained from bio gas plant which is eco friendly .
10. Extraction processes can generate air and water pollution, and harm local communities. Transporting fuels from the mine or well can cause air pollution and lead to serious accidents and spills. When the fuels are burned, they emit toxins and global warming emissions.
11. Petrochemicals (also known as petroleum distillates) are the chemical products obtained from petroleum by refining. Some chemical compounds made from petroleum are also obtained from other fossil fuels, such as coal or natural gas, or renewable sources such as maize, palm fruit or sugar cane.
Fill in the blanks.
i.
Fossil fuels are coal, natural gas and petroleum.
ii.
Process of separation of different constituents from petroleum is called refining.
3)Least polluting fuel for vehicle is CNG.
The slow process of conversion of dead vegetation into coal is called carbonization.
