In government and politics, inauguration is the process of swearing a person into office and thus making that person the incumbent. Such an inauguration commonly occurs through a formal ceremony or special event, which may also include an inaugural address by the new official. It was a red letter day in the history of South Africa because on this day the despicable policy of apartheid had been officially defeated. It was the grand occasion of swearing in of Nelson Mandela as the President of South Africa. It was a historical moment as he was the first Black President to be elected after three centuries. His party African National Congress won 252 of the 400 seats in the first democratic elections of South Africa’s history.
