Griffin, the invisible man decided to choose Marvel as his helper after studying him thoroughly. After this, he decided that Marvel was the right man because of many factors. They were both treated as outcastes in the neighborhood. Marvel was also a ramp without any proper home or family to care for him. Griffin and Marvel had the same nature of being temperamental that the former thought could be an advantage to him.
Another factor that Griffin noted about Marvel was that the latter was a simpleton and it was easy to make him do all that the invisible man wanted through temptation, threat or influence. Having his own fair share of problems, Marvel had no time to think of anything else. Therefore, there was no way that he would be bothered to know more about Griffin.
