1) An ideal simple pendulum is a point mass attached with massless, flexible and inextensible string suspended from a rigid support.

2) The to and fro motion of a simple pendulum is an example of a periodic or an oscillatory motion. The pendulum is said to have completed one oscillation when its bob,starting from its mean position O, moves to A, to B and back to O.

3) The time for one complete cycle, a left swing and a right swing, is called the period. The period depends on the length of the pendulum and also to a slight degree on the amplitude, the width of the pendulum's swing.

4) Hence, the time period of the pendulum is 1.6 seconds.
