1). The Threshing Machine was firstinvented by Scottish mechanical engineer, Andrew Meiklefor and used in agriculture. It was invented in 1786, for the separation of grain from stalks and husks. For thousands of years, grainwas separated by hand with flails, and was very laborious and time consuming.

2). Thomas Newcomen (1663-1729), a blacksmith, experimented for 10 years to develop the first truly successful steam engine to drive a pump to remove waterfrom mines. His ability to sell the engine was hampered by Savery's broad patent.
