Answer :

  • The number is 26

Given :

  • The sum of the digits of a two - digit number is 8
  • The ones digit is three times the tens digit

To find :

  • The Number

Solution :

  • Let the unit place digit number be x
  • Let the tens place digit number be y

Given that, The sum of the digits of a two - digit number is 8 so,

》x + y = 8

The ones digit is three times the tens digit so,

》x = 3y

  • x + y = 8 is equation (2)
  • x = 3y is equation (1)

Now, putting the value of x in equation (2) we get,

》x + y = 8

》3y + y = 8

》4y = 8

》y = 8/4

》y = 2

Now, putting the value of y in equation (1) we get,

》x = 3y

》x = 3(2)

》x = 6

  • y = 2
  • x = 6

Hence , Number is 26

To check :

》x + y = 8

》2 + 6 = 8

》8 = 8

Hence verified.
