A lever is a simple machine that can make work efficient with minimum effort.
- A lever usually contains a rigid beam with a fixed point called the fulcrum.
- The other two important parts in the working of a lever are the points of load and effort. Depending on the positions of each of these points on the beam, a lever is classified into different groups.
- In a first-class lever, the fulcrum is in-between the load and effort. An example is a see-saw.
- The load comes between the fulcrum and effort in a second-class lever. For example, a bottle opener.
- A third-class lever has the effort in-between the fulcrum and the load. A tong is an example of a third-class lever.
