- The elements that can be identified from this chapter are the crime that took place, The people who were accused wrongly even though evidence showed otherwise, and the powers of observation of the mind of the detective.
- Lestrade is a Scotland Yard detective who occasionally stops by Holmes' apartment on Baker Street. At first, he is hesitant to give Holmes information on the case, but he eventually tells him that he is now investigating a peculiar string of crimes. Lestrade thinks a looter is destroying Napoleon's busts (statues) in what appear to be seemingly random locations. While Holmes's views were vastly different from Lestrade's views. They both work separately to come up with the culprit of the case.
