Some leaves which are not green also make their own food since they contain a little amount of chlorophyll. By doing the starch test,if a leaf had performed photosynthesis,it will turn blue-black indicating the presence of starch stored in it.

if it doesn't have green leaves still leaves can do photosynthesis but not fully. some plants can be parisitic like cuscuta grabbing to a plant and taking their nutrients and killing them. others can be saprophytic which means it releases enzymes on decaying food and the enzymes break down the food then the plant eats the food which has broken down into simpler substances
