(i) l is the specific letent heat either of fusion or Vaporisation. as you heat liquid such as water and put a lot of energy into it some of the molecules will change from liquid to gas.

(ii) the letent heat for fusion of ice is 80calorie per gram. this amount of heat is absorbed by each gram of ice in melting or is given up by each gram of water by freezing. the letant heat of vaporisation of steam is 540 calorie per gram, absorbed during vaporisation or given up during condensation.

(iii) the amount of heat energy released or absorbed when a solid changing to liquid at atmospheric pressure at its melting point is known as the letent heat of fusion.
