2. A rock is any naturally occurring solid mass or aggregate of minerals or mineraloid matter. It is categorized by the minerals included, its chemical composition and the way in which it is formed. Rocks are usually grouped into three main groups: igneous rocks, metamorphic rocks and sedimentary rocks.

3. The types of rock: igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary

The three types of rocks.

  • Igneous Rocks.
  • Metamorphic Rocks.
  • Sedimentary Rocks.

4. Extrusive rocks are formed on the surface of the Earth from lava, which is magma that has emerged from underground. Intrusive rocks are formed from magma that cools and solidifies within the crust of the planet. ... If lava cools almost instantly, the rocks that form are glassy with no individual crystals, like obsidian.

5. The rock cycle is a process in which rocks are continuously transformed between the three rock types igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic.

6. Rocks and minerals are all around us! They help us to develop new technologies and are used in our everyday lives. Our use of rocks and minerals includes as building material, cosmetics, cars, roads, and appliances.

7. Metamorphic rocks started out as some other type of rock, but have been substantially changed from their original igneous, sedimentary, or earlier metamorphic form. Metamorphic rocks form when rocks are subjected to high heat, high pressure, hot mineral-rich fluids or, more commonly, some combination of these factors.

8. Coal, limestone, manganese ore, bauxite, copper ore, dolomite, fire clay, slate pyrophyllite-diaspore are the main minerals occurring in the State. Besides these minerals, the state is fast emerging as a dimensional stone producer. The State is blessed with favourable geological and geotectonic settings.

9. Since the temperature and pressure increase enormously as we go deeper and deeper inside the earth, we cannot go to the centre of the earth.
