(1) MOUNTAIN RANGES- Himalayas and Aravali Ranges.

PLATEAUS- Deccan Plateau and Chotanagpur plateau.

PLAINS- The Northern Plains (Indo-Gangetic Plains) and The Coastal Plains

The types of mountains are:

Fold Mountains have their origins in the folds of the Earth. Some of the fold mountains are the Himalayas and Aravallis in the Indian sub-continent, Alps in Europe, Urals in Eurasia.

Block Mountains is defined as the result of faulting caused by tensile and compressive forces motored by endogenetic forces coming from within the earth, also known as fault block mountains. Examples of fault-block mountains include the Sierra Nevada in California and Nevada, the Tetons in Wyoming, and the Harz Mountains in Germany.

Residual mountains are those mountains which have been eroded by the agents of degradation such as winds, rain, frost and running water. The hard rocks that are left behind are called residual mountains. . The Sierras of central Spain and Mesas of USA are some examples of residual mountains.

The mountains are scantily populated because of harsh climate. The slopes are steep and soil is lack. These conditions are not favourable for agriculture.

Plains and plateaus are both flat areas of land; the main difference between plain and plateau lies in their elevation. A plateau is a flat land that is raised significantly above the ground whereas plain is a flat, low-lying area.
