The difference between IRS and INSAT series of satellites:

  • These two are space technologies in ISRO for national needs, founded by Dr Vikram A Sarabhai.
  • ISRO has established two major space systems: INSAT stands for Indian National Satellite for television broadcasting and meterological services, IRS stands for Indian remote sensing satellites used for resources monitoring and management.
  • To place INSAT and IRS in the required orbits, ISRO has developed two satellite launch vehicles they are PSLV and GSLV.
  • For INSAT, GSLV is used established in 1983 and for IRS, PSLV is used established in 1988.
  • INSAT orbit is Geosynchronous orbit and for IRS orbit is Sun synchronous Polar orbit.
