I think there is potential for further research within this field. In terms of the built environment, more emphasis and research could be placed on creating buildings that can last hundreds if years (by studying examples of heritage buildings which are still around today), as opposed to the quick build houses which can have a lifespan of only 30years. And I would suggest that conserving heritage buildings may be far more 'sustainable' than demolishing and rebuilding.
With the recent questioning of western model of heritage preservation, indigenous models are being discovered all over the world and are found to be more [public] inclusive in opposition to the exclusive nature of western model. Consequently, public participation in heritage creation is being debated. How can these indigenous models play into the acceptable dogma (western model) especially in this post-colonial era?

Historical monuments and ancient historical sources constitute our cultural heritage. The following
measures should be taken to conserve them:
(i) Seepage of water in forts an in rock - cut caves should be stopped. Creepers which grow on
forts should be uprooted.
(ii) Damages due to humidity and heat should be stopped with proper measures.
(iii) To take precautions to avoid deterioration of monuments near the sea because of salt.
(iv) Hygience should be maintained at tourist sites.
(v) One should writing names, carving and defacing the monument.
(vi) Government should take measures to avoid the monuments getting vandalised.
(vii) Awareness should be created among the people about the need to preserve monuments.
(viii) Along with government, people and private sectors should contribute to raise funds for the
preservation of projects.
