Answer:

The British saw India as dark and superstitious. To change all these false beliefs and to bring order in the economy, they decided to teach the Indians the western ways of life. They thought that this will make them truthful and honest and can depend on them.

The major recommendations of the wood's despatch was that western learning will help them change their desires and tastes,it would make them improve their moral character ans so they boycotted the Benares collage and the madrassa and since they where known as the temple of darkness. They produced English textbooks for schools.

Before the British system of education, the patshalas were flexible enough to nurture the needs of the children. There were no sperate classes, the teaching was oral,no annual examination, fee depended on their parents fee, holidays during harvest seasons which meant that the peasant children could also join them. But everything changed after the British system of education...there were different division of classes, teaching was based on textbooks, students had to be tested through examinations, fixed fee,no holidays during harvest, accurate attendance was required etc...

Some national leaders thought that this way of learning was wrong as they manipulated the young generations mind by inserting all wrong information. They thought that they'll be aliens in their own lands and will ignore their traditional customs and beliefs.

Mahatma Gandhi wanted to teach craft because he wanted the children to learn how things work as they proceed into adulthood..he believed that it will improve their practical thinking as well.
