1) The first democracy country is traced to 1809 till 1848 during which they were three. By the beginning of the 20th century there were 10 democratic countries and the system has been continued being adopted reaching 87 countries by 2009. India is the largest democracy in the world.

2) In a democracy, the people have to be treated equally, i.e there should not be any discrimination be it social, economic, or political. These all equality must be granted to all the citizens. ... Economic equality is when people do not starve in poverty and have basic amenities for life.

3) democracy safeguards human dignity through its principle of political equality on recognizing that the poorest and the richest citizens have the same status and that people are not the subjects to the ruler but that they are the rulers themselves.

4) Three provisions of the Indian constitution that aim at ensuring social equality are: (a) Every person from the president of the country to a common man, a domestic worker has to obey same rules. (b) No person can be discriminated against on the basis of their religion, race, caste, place of birth and sex.
