Q.2. Which disease proved deadly killer for America's original inhabitant?

Ans: Small pox disease had proved deadly killer for America's original inhabitants

Q.3. Why were big European powers met in Berlin in 1885?

Ans: In Berlin, major European nations met to hold a conference on the division of the African states. Between 1884 and 1885 the division of Africa was initiated by the European powers. The conference took place in Berlin, Germany's capital city. During this conference, Africa was divided into various European nations. They wanted to divide Africa into different states so that they could gain control over the continent's plentiful renewable resources for their industrial development.

Q4. What is meant by 'Corn Laws'?

Ans: The Corn Laws were tariffs &  other trade restrictions which was imposed  on imported food & grain and was enforced in the UK between 1815 & 1846. The Corn Laws also increased land ownership income and political control. Q.5. Explain the three types of flows within Inter-national Economic Exchanges.

The three types of movements/flows within the inter-national economic exchange are human capital flows (migration of people in search of employment), capital flows/investments, & trade flows (trade in agricultural products/goods/services).

Q6. Describe the Canal Colonies where and Why were they introduced?

Ans: In the 19th century, "Canal Colonies" were the regions irrigated by the new canals that were constructed by the British and Indian Government. In Punjab they were launched. They have been developed to transform wasteland into fertile farmland to cultivate wheat and cotton for export.

Q7. How did the global transfer of disease in pre- modern world helped in colonisation of the Americas?

Ans: Global disease transfers in the pre-modern world have contributed to American colonization because the Indians of the native Americas are unable to cope with the diseases brought by colonists and settlers. The Romans were more or less immune to small poxes, but the American tribes, who for millions of years were cut off from the rest of the planet, didn't shield themselves. Such germs had ravaged whole populations and ruined them, opening the way for global domination. Guns and soldiers may be killed or seized, but illnesses could not be combated.

Q8. How did Rinderpest become instrumental In subjugating the Africans?

Ans: (i) The loss of 90 percent of the cattle had destroyed African livelihoods.

(ii) Mine owners, colonial govts, & planters had then successfully monopolized scarce cattle resources that had remained, so as to strengthen their control & power and had forced Africans into the labor market.

(iii) Control over limited resource of cattle had facilitated European colonizers to conquer & suppress Africa
