Europeans felt the need to discover a new sea route to India. How do you explain this statement?

Europeans felt the need to preserve their meat long ago. Thus they started trading pepper from India long ago. Soon they started trading other spices from India. But Constantinople was blocked which is the only(atleast then) land route to India. Thus Europeans are in dire need to find an alternate route(sea route as there is no technology then in Europe for an aircraft)to India especially for pepper which will ensure food security of European kingdoms. Further their lust for spices made Indians to be colonised. Even after independence we could not come out of the colonised mindset in educational policies which again gives a colonised generation. We are in dire need to change our educational policies which would free our future generation from being colonised. Thank you.
