- During 2nd century B.C. till 14th century A.D. the most important and historical trade route was The Silk Route.
- It extended from Asia to the Mediterranean crossing India, China, Arabia, Persia, Greece, and Italy.
- It was referred as the Silk Route during that period because of silk trading which was carried out.
- This costly fabric had its origin in China, which enjoyed monopoly in the production of silk till its secret of how they are made was revealed.
