 \bold{ \red{ \underline{Chemical \: reactions :}}}

Chemical reactions are the process in which new products or we can say substances with new properties are formed. Substances which are take part in this reaction are known as reactants. New substances formed in this reaction are called products.

For example :

Hydrogen + Oxygen → Water

Here, Hydrogen and oxygen are reactants and Water is product formed in this chemical reaction.

There are five types of chemical reactions :

 \bold{ \pink{ \underline{1. \: Combination \: reactions :}}}

Combination reactions are those reactions in which two or more substances react to form a single substance or product.

For example :

2Mg + O₂ → 2MgO

Here, Magnesium (2Mg) and Oxygen (O₂) are two substances and Magnesium oxide (2MgO) is a single product.

 \bold{ \purple{ \underline{2. \: Decomposition \: reactions :}}}

Decomposition reactions are those reactions in which a single substance or compound is spilt into two ore more substances. [This reaction is opposite to combination reaction].

For example :

CaCo₃ → CaO + CO₂

Here, Calcium carbonate (CaCo₃) is break into two substances Calcium oxide (CaO) and Carbon dioxide (CO₂).

 \bold{ \orange{ \underline{3. \: Displacement \: reactions :}}}

Displacement reactions are those reactions in which one substance or element take place of another element in any compound.

Generally, more reactive elements takes place the less reactive elements in its compound.

This reaction is also called single displacement reactions.

For example :

CuO + Mg → MgO + Cu

Here, Magnesium (Mg) which is more reactive metal is taking place of Copper (Cu) which is less reactive than magnesium.

 \bold{ \blue{ \underline{4. \: Double \: displacement \: reactions :}}}

Double displacement reactions are those reactions in which two compounds react by exchange of ions to form two new compound.

For example :

AgNo₃ + NaCl → AgCl + NaNO₃

Here, Two compounds Silver nitrate (AgNo₃) and Sodium chloride (NaCl) are reacting to form two new compounds Silver chloride (AgCl) and Sodium nitrate (NaNO₃).

 \bold{ \green{ \underline{5. \: Oxidation \:  and \: reduction \: reactions }}}

Oxidation : The removal of hydrogen from a substance is called oxidation/ The addition of oxygen to a substance is also known as oxidation. The substances which gives oxygen and substances which remove hydrogen are called oxidising agent.

Reduction: The removal of oxygen from a substance is called reduction/ The addition of hydrogen to a substance is also known as reduction.The substances which gives hydrogen and substances which remove oxygen are called reducing agent.

These oxidation and reduction are also called redox reactions.

For example :

CuO + H₂ → Cu + H₂0

Here, Copper oxide (CuO) is reduced and Hydrogen (H₂) is oxidised and Copper oxide is oxidising agent and Hydrogen is reducing agent.
