1Ans ) About Kabir :-

i) Kabir was one of the most influential saints of fifteenth - sixteenth centuries .

ii) He wrote a vast collection of verses called 'Sakhis' and 'pads' .

iii) He has composed them but were sung by wandering bhajan singers.

iv) Some of his verses were later collected and preserved in Guru Granth Sahib , Panch Vani and Bijak .

v) Kabir had criticised all types of external worship of both Hinduism and Islam .

vi) He has strongly condemned the case system and dominance of priestly classes .

vii) Kabir believed in a formless Supreme God .

viii) He said that salvation can be achieved only through bhakti or devotion .

ix) Kabir drew his followers from both Hindus and Muslims .

2Ans ) Works of Guru Nanak :-

Baba Guru Nanak : ( 1469-1539 AD )

i) Guru Nanak was born at Talwandi ( Nankana Sahib in Pakistan ) .

ii) He travelled widely before establishing a centre at Kartarpur ( Dera Baba Nanak on the rivers Ravi ) .

iii) He used to worship in the form of singing of his own hymns .

iv) Irrespective of their form creed , caste or gender , his followers ate together in a common kitchen ( langar ) .

v) The sacred place thus created by Guru Nanak was known as 'dharmsal' . It is now known as 'Gurdwara' .

vi) Guru Grandh Sahib , is the holy scripture of the Sikhs .

3Ans ) About Mirabai :-

1) Mirabai was a Rajput princess who was married in a royal family of Mewar in the 16th century .

2) She became the discipline of Ravidas , a saint from untouchable caste .

3) She was very much devoted to Krishna and composed many bhajans to show her intense devotion .

4) She openly challenged the rule of upper castes and became popular with the masses in Rajasthan and Gujarat .

5) Nam , dan and isnan are the terms used for the essence of her teachings .

4Ans) Teachings of Ramanujan :-

1) Ramanujan was born in Tamilnadu in the 11th century .

2) He was deeply influenced by the Alvars .

3) According to him , the best means of attaining salvation was through intense devotion to Vishnu .

4) Vishnu in his grace helps the devotee to attain the bliss of union with him .

5) Ramanujan propounded the doctrine of Vishisht Advaita or qualified oneness .

6) According to Vishistadvita the soul , even when united with the Supreme God remains distinct .

7) Ramanujan's doctrine greatly inspired the new way of bhakti which was developed in North India in later times .

4Ans ) Vira Shaiva Movement :-

i) Vira Shaiva Movement was started by Basavanna and his companions like Allama Prabhu and Akkamahadevi .

ii) This was a reaction to the idea of connection between Tamil Bhakti Movement and temple worship .

iii) This movement was started in Karnataka in the mid 12th century .

iv) The followers of Virashaivism argued strongly for the equality of all human beings and against Brahmanical ideas about caste and the treatment of the women .

v) They were also against all forms of ritual and idol worship .
