(a) The famous lady in the picture was Pandita Ramabai Sarasvati along with her daughter Manorama Bai.

(b) The title ''Pandita'' was given to her in 1878 by Calcutta University because of her Sanskrit knowledge.  

  • Pandita Ramabai Sarasvati was born on 23 April 1858 in Canara district,  Madras, British India.
  • She was a women's rights & education activist. She was the first woman to receive the title of Pandita.
  • She founded the organization, Mukti Mission at Kedgaon Village. It was later named as Pandita Ramabai Mukti Mission.
  • Pandita Ramabai died on 5th April 1922 at the age of 63 in Bombay Presidency, British India.
