7. The Judiciary system of India is one the largest in the entire world. It ranges from the smallest scale with municipal courts, to the national level at the Supreme Court. The independent judiciary system is responsible for ensuring that all laws passed by Parliament or State Legislatures, and the methods chosen by the Executive to implement them, are all in line with the Constitution of India.

Five criteria for being appointed the High Court Judge for a state are:

  1. Must be an Indian citizen
  2. Must have worked as an advocate for at least 10 years in any Indian court
  3. Appointed by the President of India and CJI
  4. Retirement age is mandated at 65 years
  5. Advocates with a ten year standing in any High Court are also eligible besides jurists whom the President of India may consider as eminent.
