ABCD is a parallelogram.

AL⊥CD and AM⊥BC [ Given ]

AB=12cm, AD=8cm and AL=6cm

We know, opposite sides of a parallelogram are equal.

AB=CD and AD=BC

∴ CD=12cm and BC=8cm

⇒ Area of a parallelogram ABCD=AL×CD

=6×12

=72cm

2

------ ( 1 )

⇒ Area of a parallelogram ABCD=AM×BC

=AM×8 ----- ( 2 )

Comparing ( 1 ) and ( 2 ) we get,

⇒ AM×8=72

∴ AM=9cm
