Let speed of man be u and speed of water be v

Thus when water is still v = 0
and   u = 8 Kmph

when river flows at 2 kmph

t1 = x/ u+v
 t1 = x/ 10
and

t2 = x/ 8-2
t2 = x/6
Thus

t1 +  t2 = x/10 + x/6
   48/60   = 16x/60
    x = 3 Km
Thus answer is 3 Km
