Let ,

The total number of students = x

Given,

40% of the students are girls.

So,

(100-40)%=60% of the students are boys.

And,

Number of boys = 600

According to question,

60% of x = 600

=> 60/100 × x = 600

=> 6x/10 = 600

=> 6x = 600×10

=> 6x = 6000

=> x = 6000/6

=> x = 1000

•°• Total number of student = 1000

Now,

Number of girls = Total number of students - Number of boys

= 1000 - 600

= 400

Answer:answer

Step-by-step explanation:let the no.of girls in the school be X .

No.of boys in the school is given as 600.

... Total no.of students in the school=600+X

It is given that 40% of the students are girls .

......No. of girls in the school= 40%of (600×X).

-- X = 40/100 (600+X).

-- X = 2/5 (600+X).

-- 5X = 2(600+X).

-- 5X = 1200+2X.

-- 5X- 2X = 1200.

-- 3X = 1200.

-- X = 1200/3 = 400.

Thus,girls are 400.

Hope it helps!
