Answer:

a) The atmosphere is divided into five layers. It is thickest near the surface and thins out with height until it eventually merges with space.

•The troposphere is the first layer above the surface and contains half of the Earth's atmosphere. Weather occurs in this layer.

•Many jet aircrafts fly in the stratosphere because it is very stable. Also, the ozone layer absorbs harmful rays from the Sun.

Meteors or rock fragments burn up in the mesosphere.

•The thermosphere is a layer with auroras. It is also where the space shuttle orbits.

•The atmosphere merges into space in the extremely thin exosphere. This is the upper limit of our atmosphere.

b) The given pie chart explains the composition of atmosphere in which Nitrogen is 78%, Oxygen is 21%, Carbon Dioxide is 0.03%, while the remaining 0.9%constitute the trace gases like argon, helium etc.

c) The atmosphere is an important part of what makes Earth livable. It blocks some of the Sun's dangerous rays from reaching Earth. It traps heat, making Earth a comfortable temperature. And the oxygen within our atmosphere is essential for life.

d) Solar radiation is the fundamental energy driving our climate system, and nearly all climatic and biologic processes on Earth are dependent on solar input. Energy from the sun is essential for many processes on Earth including warming of the surface, evaporation, photosynthesis and atmospheric circulation.

e) Particulates serve as condensation nuclei for water. In order for water to change from a gas to a liquid, a nucleus upon which water vapor can attach itself is nearly always required. Without particulates, little water would condense to form clouds and precipitation.
