Question 3 :

  • A gas fills a container completely in which it is kept because in gases the interparticle space is maximum .
  • A gas exerts pressure on the walls of the container because the particles are loosely packed and have a radom motion . Hence , collide with each other and exert pressure on the walls of the container .
  • A table should be called a solid because it has a definite shape and volume . it is very rigid and cannot be compressed.
  • we can easily move our hand in air but to do the same through a solid block of wood we need a karate expert because the particles in solid are tightly packed as compared to the gas particles which are loosely packed .

Question 4:

Liquids generally have lower density as compared to solids but ice floats on water because ice has a cage like structure , molecules are not closely packed and vacant spaces are left . As ice melts , these molecules come closer and hence the density increases . As ice being less denser it floats, over the surface if water
