The diaphragm is a muscle crucial for breathing. When the diaphragm contracts, suction is created that draws air into the lungs. Air is exhaled as the diaphragm relaxes.

When the diaphragm is not working properly, respiratory issues may occur.  There is typically a degree of reduction in lung capacity. You can't breathe well. Your lungs will not work. You can't survive at all as the diaphragm is the organ that draws air inside your lungs and helps to take out the air also.
