Answer:
1.Three States of Matter
(And Earth is the only planet where water is abundantly present in all three states.) ... The three phases are solid (ice or snow), liquid (water), and gas (water vapor). See ice, water, and clouds (Figure below).
2.About 71 percent of the Earth's surface is water-covered, and the oceans hold about 96.5 percent of all Earth's water. Water also exists in the air as water vapor, in rivers and lakes, in icecaps and glaciers, in the ground as soil moisture and in aquifers, and even in you and your dog.
3.When waters run dry, people can't get enough to drink, wash, or feed crops, and economic decline may occur. In addition, inadequate sanitation—a problem for 2.4 billion people—can lead to deadly diarrheal diseases, including cholera and typhoid fever, and other water-borne illnesses.
4.Most groundwater originates as meteoric water from precipitation in the form of rain or snow. If it is not lost by evaporation, transpiration or to stream runoff, water from these sources may infiltrate into the ground.
5.When a water-bearing rock readily transmits water to wells and springs, it is called an aquifer. Wells can be drilled into the aquifers and water can be pumped out. Precipitation eventually adds water (recharge) into the porous rock of the aquifer.
6.Causes of Groundwater Depletion
Groundwater depletion most commonly occurs because of the frequent pumping of water from the ground. ...
We continuously pump groundwater from aquifers and it does not have enough time to replenish itself. ...
Agricultural needs require a large amount of groundwater.
7.Mulch is an insulator, so moisture is retained in the soil for longer by stopping evaporation at the surface of the soil. It also keeps the soil cool in hot weather, protecting the roots.
