Answer these questions.

1. How do you think he measured the rate of photosynthesis?
2. How do you think he increased the amount of carbon dioxide in the water?
3. Since temperature causes a change in the rate of photosynthesis, he kept the temperature constant throughout the experiment. Suggest one more factor that he should have kept
constant.
4. Why did the graph increase initially?
5. Why do you think it ultimately levelled off?

The rate of photosynthesis increases linearly with increasing CO2 concentration (from point A to B ). The rate falls gradually, and at a certain CO2 concentration it stays constant (from point B to C). Here a rise in CO2 levels has no effect as the other factors such as light intensity become limiting.

Dissolving carbon dioxide in the ocean creates carbonic acid, which increases the acidity of the water. Or rather, a slightly alkaline ocean becomes a little less alkaline. Since 1750, the pH of the ocean's surface has dropped by 0.1, a 30 percent change in acids

as the temperature increases, the enzymes get more energy so the rate of photosynthesis increases. ... If it gets too hot the enzymes begin to lose their shape (denature). this means they are unable to function properly and the rate of photosynthesis decreases again.

Answer:

Answer:1. Measuring photosynthesis via the production of oxygen

Oxygen can be measured by counting bubbles evolved from pondweed, or by using the Audus apparatus to measure the amount of gas evolved over a period of time.

2. Dissolving carbon dioxide in the ocean creates carbonic acid, which increases the acidity of the water. Or rather, a slightly alkaline ocean becomes a little less alkaline. Since 1750, the pH of the ocean's surface has dropped by 0.1, a 30 percent change in acidity.

3. As the temperature increases, the enzymes get more energy so the rate of photosynthesis increases. If it gets too hot the enzymes begin to lose their shape (denature). this means they are unable to function properly and the rate of photosynthesis decreases again.

4. The graph increased initially because the rate of photosynthesis increases with the increase in the amount of carbon dioxide.

5. The graph levelled off because the increase in the rate of photosynthesis with the increase in carbon dioxide, occurs only upto a point.
